I am speculating that Festus in chapter
26 of Acts is Melancholy in Control. This is based on his, what I would call,
passing the buck kind thing. He doesn’t want to not give the Jews what they
want and yet he has figured out that their accusations against Paul are not
criminal in any way. But instead of letting Paul go, he puts the decision in someone
else’s hands. A Melancholy in Control doesn’t want to be responsible for
someone else but it also could be that Festus just didn’t want any disapproval
from the Jews. In any case, without Festus taking an APS, it can only be
speculation. But it does show me that, although what he did is probably based
on a weakness within his temperament, God uses it to fit into his plan for
Paul. This shows that no matter what we do whether our choices are wise or not,
God works them all into His greater plan. We don’t have to hold onto guilt for
things we have done that were not good choices but know that it is part of God’s
plan and with the help of the Holy Spirit we can overcome the built-in
weaknesses we have and transform them into strengths that will bring glory to
God and help further His kingdom.
Acts
25:26 But I have
nothing definite to write to His Majesty about him. Therefore I have brought
him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that as a
result of this investigation I may have something to write.
